“Imagine an Electric Future” Drawing Competition

Imagine an Electric Future – Kids’ Drawing Competition

We’re inviting tamariki (ages 5–12) to draw their vision of an electric Hutt, school, or home. Think electric cars and scooters, solar panels, clever wind or water power, and all the bright ideas that come with a fully electrified future.

Key Dates

  • Opens: 1 September 2025
  • Closes: 1 October 2025
  • Winners announced: 4 October 2025 (at the Electrify the Hutt Expo, Hutt Event Centre)

About the competition

The theme is “Imagine an Electric Hutt / School / Home.”
We want to see how kids imagine a fully electrified future: electric transport, renewable energy like solar, wind or water power, and any other electrifying ideas.

  • Open to children aged 5–12. One entry per child.
  • Entries should be dropped to the Council Reception drop-off box, 30 Laings Road, Lower Hutt.
  • Schools are encouraged to submit in bulk. Parents can submit individually if a school isn’t participating.

Label each drawing with:

  • First & last name
  • Age
  • School name
  • Contact: school (bulk) or parent/caregiver (individual)

How to enter

School submissions (preferred):

  1. Collect entries at your school (Lower Hutt schools) It’s recommended a teacher coordinates this.
  2. Ensure each drawing is clearly labelled.
  3. Deliver all entries together to the Council Reception drop-off box at 30 Laings Road, Lower Hutt.

Individual submissions:

  • If your child’s school isn’t submitting as a group — or you live outside Lower Hutt — parents/caregivers can submit individually.
  • Prepare one drawing per child (ages 5–12).
  • Label it with the required details.
  • Drop to the Council Reception, 30 Laings Road, Lower Hutt by 1 October 2025.

Prizes

  • Grand prize (individual): $300 to spend at EVO (e.g. scooter, skateboard or similar). Winner selected by random draw.
  • School prize (Lower Hutt schools only): $3,000 funding towards a school project. Selected based on the project proposal to spend winnings and percentage of participating students.
  • Recognition prizes: 15 pool pass prizes for standout artworks — five per age range: 5–6, 7–9, 10–12. Chosen by a judging panel.

Prizes can be collected any time at the Electrify the Hutt Expo on 4 October 2025.
If a recognition prize winner isn’t present, we can post the prize (provided contact details are accurate).

How winners are selected

  • Individual grand prize: Random draw using an online generator or similar method.
  • School prize: Based on the number of participating students and the strength of the school’s project proposal to spend winnings. While we would love to see an electric school project, any proposals are welcome. The school simply has to demonstrate they have a plan for the money and can demonstrate how it will be of benefit.
  • Recognition prizes: Selected by a judging panel for standout artworks across three age groups.
